Overview

Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, exceeds healthy limits. It is commonly defined as a body mass index (weight divided by height squared) of 30 kg/m2 or higher.

Although obesity is an individual clinical condition, some authorities view it as a serious and growing public health problem. Some studies show that excessive body weight has been shown to predispose to various diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis.

My Daughter is Overweight and Most of Her Friends Are Not

I do not want to her self-consciousness about her weight and her say, what not to eat, but I'm at a loss what to do.

If you want your children to become interested in exercise, it is important for them to see you in the exercise participate. Kids are not forgotten and are very aware of what they are at home.

You can not just say that children are actively fun, you actually have to show them. A few weeks ago we at the Santa Monica 5000 Events to raise funds for the St. Johns Hospital. We facilitated a children's walk and obstacle course. It was so rewarding to see parents with their children early setting examples of spending a Sunday morning to participate in this fun event.

As a parent, it is so important that you are in regular physical activity. That does not necessarily mean that you have to carve out 2 hours a day exercising. On the contrary, you can be a great workout in a short time by the inclusion in the exercise of your daily routine: Walk instead of drive; If you drive, park the car far away from the entrance. Take walks after dinner. Turn off the TV and family planning activities that focus on physical activity. Is proof of different activities to your children, so they have a lot to choose from.

Cook healthy meals at home and eat when you made your children how good choices in restaurants. If your child is the knowledge, tools, support and encouragement they will be healthy choices in college and throughout their lives. You may also plans with your teens' courses friends parents to do all some kind of activity that involves being active. This is a great opportunity for the commitment and support to show.

Today's young people have active schedules and seemingly endless commitments, it is important to schedule physical activity.

Watch for changing interests. Just because your son or daughter played a certain sport or activity in middle school does not mean that he /she will always want to keep them play. Next to your teen to new activities and let them find what interests them. That is, I think, is one of the keys to long-term fitness and health.
