More and more schools dealing with the problem of obesity in children with increased activity and better food choices, but here is the problem. What happens when children leave the structure of school for the summer?
They weight after a recent study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Gone are the days of our childhood, when we were out of the house in the morning to play in the neighborhood and returned for the meals. We live in a different world - and yet, our children must active.
Here are a few tips to keep your kids healthy this summer:
Skip of soda. Children need water, and lots of it. Soda, powdered drink mixes, juices and add calories your children do not need and have trouble burning. If your children do not like water, try a splash of 100% juice or juice flavored ice cubes. If your children are active outside on the day warmer than 90 degrees, you might consider a sports drink them - but they do not need the added calories or sodium otherwise.
Structure when they eat. Food on the table for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Limit for the small once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Snacks should be small and include fresh fruit and vegetables, if possible.
Limit TV time. One or two hours television or computer /video game time per day is something plenty.
Plan active. Every day, make sure that your children are moving for about an hour. This can be done in two sessions of 30 minutes 15 minutes or three meetings. Walking with the dog, mowing the lawn, cleaning around the house are all good ways to help the children and become active in the same period. Do not forget about games like fun day, or even play in the sprinkler. Just playing on the playground or they can shoot baskets moving.
Keep the junk. If the chips are not in the house, the kids will not eat. Fill out your cupboards and refrigerator with healthy snack choices.
Of course, all of these tricks will help parents stay healthy again this summer!
